OVERVIEW
Description of Group/Organization and programs offered which relate to improving literacy:
We support school readiness through open access to information, technology, and programming that encourages literacy and learning at every age level.  Programs include:
Babygarten: A set of classes designed for infants and their caregivers where they will learn about the importance of reading to babies, and parents will learn skills to promote pre-literacy learning, as well as receive information about infant development and parenting. Offered at selected branches; contact local branch for availability.
Storytimes: Regularly scheduled storytimes for different age groups; children’s librarians at many branches can also work with groups to schedule outreach storytimes
Summer Reading program: June and July, ages 0 to 11 years old

Online Resources: Online books, read-along audio books, daily literacy activities, teacher resources

Books to Go: Certain branches offer coordinated book delivery by theme or age group to outside groups; contact local branch for availability information
Teen Programming/Events: Teen Library Advisory Boards (some branches), teen facebook page

Family events: Fun and learning for the whole family; examples include  Family Game Time, Literacy Fit Camp, movie screenings, and Saturday Read-In events. (Listed on our calendar)

Description of programs in schools and locations:
Storytimes are planned in many daycares, preschools, and elementary schools, as well as some after-school outreach initiatives. Each outreach is specific to the branch/librarian providing it. Contact your local branch to find out about its outreach availability.

Description of Outreach initiatives:
We inform the community about library services at various festivals and events throughout the year, host community events such as One Book, and conduct outreach to non-school community organizations (branch-specific).
